"Faith in Jesus Christ" section, pg.61-62 of "Preach My Gospel"

Out of the scriptures given in these paragraphs and in the "Scripture Study" section on pg. 62, what is your favorite verse or verses? Why? What does it explain or mean to you? How does it help you understand or build faith in Jesus Christ? How can you use these verses in your life?

You don't need to answer all of these questions, but these can help you get started in explaining your favorite verses describing faith in Jesus Christ.

  1. I like Alma 34: 14-16. In 14 we learn that the entire law of moses, the law and the prophets, all point to Jesus Christ's atonement for us:

"And behold, this is the whole meaning of the law, every whit pointing to that great and last sacrifice; and that great and last sacrifice will be the Son of God, yea, infinite and eternal."

And in v15 where this salvation is available if we believe in Christ - that he was and is capable of this wonderful miracle.

  2. Well it looks like I was commenting on p61 in the manual. Sorry, I was reading in online (http://lds.org/languages/additionalmanuals/preachgospel/PreachMyGospel___00_00_Complete__36617_eng_.pdf) and was on the wrong page. I'll look at pg62 tomorrow.

  3. I like 1 Nephi 7 : 12 because it says that christ can do all things in his will if you have faith in him. I also like how it talks about if someone has lost faith in him how it just talks about what they are missing out on. Does anyone else have anything to add on this?

  4. I found 2 Nephi 9:21-24, and it says that if we repent and believe in Christ's name, we will be saved and taken to heaven, whereas if we do not repent and live his teachings, we will be damned, "for the Lord hath spoken it." Doesn't sound very fun to be damned, so I think I'll stick with option #1.

  5. Ether 12:27 is one of my favorite scriptures on faith in Jesus Christ. "And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them."

This explains so clearly that if we really desire to come unto Christ, then as we study his teachings and behavior we will see our weaknesses. As we see them it will humble us. As we turn to Him for strength and we work to overcome them, He will help us overcome them. Grace on page 697 of the Bible Dictionary helps in our understanding and 2 Nephi 25:23 too.
